Kenya Dental Association

The Kenya Dental Association is the professional association of Kenyan Dentists committed to the public oral health, ethics, science and professional advancement. The KDA was founded in 1977 with the objective of promoting the advancement of dental practice in Kenya. The Association has also acted as a welfare organ for Dental Practitioners as well as one of the key promoters of Oral health awareness in the country. The association’s aim is to formulate a framework for policy makers at different levels–national, county and local. The process of formulating a national, County or local oral health strategy necessitates evaluating the oral health before steps can be taken to improve it. The council consists of the Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Asst secretary, Treasurer, Asst treasurer and 8 other regular council members KDA supports the Government in improving recording , collating and analysis of oral health data around the country in order to have policies that are relevant to Kenya @ 50, and in line with Vision 2030. Membership include diverse expertise in academia, dental research, public and private dental practitioners. KDA’s goals are to minimize the impact of oral and oral of systemic diseases in the citizenry and to promote early diagnosis, prevention and effective management of systemic diseases. KDA is an accredited CPD provider. CPD lecture held on the 2nd and 4th Friday of every month (local /international speakers ). These seminars have become a useful platform where members are able to gain valuable insight in various aspects of dental practice and will continue to strengthen position as credible CPD provider. Other CPD activities include: seminars, hands on courses, study groups, journal clubs, E-learning and conferences. CPDs ensures that the dentists keep up with the latest in technology/practice and this reduces the chances of malpractice . • There is need for regulatory bodies to ensure that no dentist is retained in the register without fulfilling the CPD requirements. KDA is not involved in licensure of foreign trained dentists but they get a lot of enquires which they direct to the board. There is a Mobile clinic which is used to strengthen their community based outreach programmes to thousand of rural folk who are unable to access dental services. The vehicle is equipped with modern dental equipment capable of providing comprehensive dental treatment.

About Kenya Dental Association

There are numerous Dental Societies worldwide, both national and international. However, too many people mistakenly believe that they need to see a dentist only if they are in pain or think something is wrong, but they're missing the bigger picture. A dental visit means being examined by a doctor of oral health capable of diagnosing and treating conditions that can range from routine to extremely complex. Some of these societies are working on specific topics on destistry.Some of the Dental Societies in different parts of the world are as follows:

American Dental Societies: USA is considered to be the hub of research. There are several societies working on different field, out of which almost 77 USA Dental Societies and associations are present.  These societies and association are located in Maryland, Illinois, Washington, California and Florida.

European Dental Societies: More than 55 Dental Societies in Europe are contributing towards pathology research activities through their annual congress, journal and newsletters. Majority of these European Dental Societies and Associations are located in Belgium, Ireland, UK and Italy.

Asia-Pacific Dental Societies:  There are almost 35 Asian Dental Societies working on human as well as animal. These associations are situated mostly in Japan, Singapore, India and China. These societies were established in different time periods by eminent dentist and scientists working in this field.

Middle East Dental Societies: In Middle East almost 24 Dental Associations are present. These societies are organizing annual and biannual Dental Annual Conferences in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Dental Societies Conferences: There are almost 150 Dental Meetings and conferences which are scheduled by these societies for the year 2016 and 2017 in different parts of the globe. These international Dental Conferences and Dental Annual Meetings are intended to bring together all the recent researches, new innovations and findings in a global platform.
